URBAN LAND INSTITUTE NASHVILLE TO REVEAL WINNERS OF FIRST ANNUAL EXCELLENCE IN DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Urban Land Institute’s Nashville District Council will honor nine local projects with an Excellence in Development Award on May 19. The awards recognize innovation in land use and design, design excellence, contribution to the community, reflection of the regional character, public/private partnership, environmental sensitivity and financial viability of local developments.

SPEAKER: Tom Murphy, former Pittsburgh mayor and now senior ULI fellow for urban development
The keynote speech by Tom Murphy is expected to be a highlight of the evening. As Pittsburgh mayor (1994-2005), Murphy redeveloped the city’s riverfront, built the first green convention center and the world’s largest green building, squeezed money out of a tight operating budget to create a development fund, reinvented public housing and revitalized the downtown area.
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) www.uli.org is a nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members worldwide. The ULI Nashville District Council’s priority is to serve as a convener and collaborator, providing a forum for exchange of ideas and education about best practices in land use for Middle Tennessee’s public, private, educational and nonprofit real estate and land-use community. It has a diverse membership of 200 professionals including architects, engineers, developers, Realtors®, public officials, academicians and attorneys.
